Hershey Gardens 75th anniversary opening kick-off
Saturday, March 31, 2012: The Hershey Gardens, Derry Township
By CPBJ staff
Due to the unseasonably warm winter this year, The Hershey Gardens are opening early to show visitors more blooms than they might typically expect around this time of year.
Daffodils, hyacinth and tulips already are in bloom, as well as the Lenten Rose and several of the flowering trees scattered around the gardens.
The gardens have grown to reach more than 23 acres since they were opened in 1937. Today they feature themed gardens, a seasonal butterfly house and an educational children’s garden.
This year, in recognition of the gardens’ 75th anniversary, a new garden theme will be on display commemorating the legacy of M.S. Hershey.
This new garden will showcase the revitalized M.S. Hershey Rose, which was named after Mr. Hershey in 1940.
The gardens are open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
