Happy St. Patrick’s Day !
St. Patrick is an Apostle of Ireland and also believed to be the one who brought Christianity to the people of Ireland over 1,000 years ago.
The Irish have observed this day as a religious holiday as the Saint’s feast day on the anniversary of his death in the fifth century. On St. Patrick’s Day, which falls during the Christian season of Lent, Irish families would traditionally attend church in the morning and celebrate in the afternoon. Lenten prohibitions against the consumption of meat were waived and people would dance, drink and feast–on the traditional meal of Irish bacon and cabbage. Perhaps the most well known legend is that he explained the Holy Trinity (Father, Son and Holy Spirit) using the three leaves of a native Irish clover, the shamrock.
Now over 1,500 years after his death people everywhere celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with the “Irish Meal” of corned beef and cabbage and of course a a brew to go along with your meal. It was not until recently that Ireland actually allowed pubs to be open on St. Patrick’s Day because of its religious background but now I think that there is nothing more associated with St. Patrick’s Day than a good brew.
Everyone here at the Fairfield Inn & Suites would like to wish everyone a Happy and safe St. Patrick’s Day !
